Today, something very exciting happened here at Castleview Open Farm! Late in the evening, while the sun was beginning to set, mammy llama gave birth to a beautiful fluffy little baby! Our baby llama (called a cria) wobbled to her feet within just a few minutes!
Crias are amazing because they can stand and walk soon after they are born. This little beauty was no different—she took a few wobbly steps, then trotted around the pen, staying close her mammy. The farmer made sure both mammy and her baby were healthy and happy. He brought them into a nice warm shed with lots of fresh hay and water.
This is a photo of our beautiful girl a few hours after she was born. Look at her standing up and playing already!
All the other llamas and our alpaca named Flash, were so excited to welcome the new arrival. They gathered around and watched as she nuzzled close to her mammy who gave her gentle kisses with her nose.
Our little cria will be one month old when we open to the public this year. She’s already grown so much and become so playful! We can’t wait for you to meet her!
Welcome to the world, baby Tessa!
